That being said, there is a scene where a man with breasts is seen naked from the waist up in the shower and while it isn't long, it can catch people off guard who are expecting something else. As far as sexuality goes, most of it is just scantily dressed characters (like Faye, who only wears a crop top and short shorts through the entire show). Language is frequent but not gratuitous, with the worst of it being $h!t. As far as content goes, violence is very common and sometimes very brutal ( for instance, a scene in the last episodes where the villain slashes an old man's eyes and you see sprays of blood from behind his face). It aired originally on Adult Swim, so that should tell you that much. Unlike many other shows out there, the shows places great importance on the characters and delves into their backstories. The themes and bloody violence makes this show unsuitable for anyone under the age of 14Ĭowboy Bebop is a great TV show. If your teen wants to watch this show, this is a great, thought provoking and exciting show they may love. Characters smoke a lot and there's an episode where they accidentally take mushroom and have a psychedelic trip. On face value, Faye Valentine could seem overly sexualized, but she's one the strongest characters in the show, has an incredibly complex past and isn't constantly getting saved by the male characters. However, it's probably the complex themes that would make this show best for older teens, as they wouldn't get as much out of it. If your child has seen films like Terminator 2 or Aliens, it's probably not any worse than that. Ep's like Jupiter Jazz Pt I+ II, Perriot Le Feou, The Real Folk Blues Pt.I+II and Ballad of Fallen of Angels are quite bloody and brutal. Ep's like Jammin' With Edward, Heavy Metal Queen, Stray Dog Strut and Mushroom Samba (although it contains drug content) keep violence to a minimum. It really depends on what episodes you watch. Still, this show is quite violent and can get quite dark. This is a fantastic show with an excellent (but quite darkly delivered) message about past trauma and how your past can keep people are searching for catharsis in the present without dealing with it.
