![]() I was raised in Uruguay and Alonso and I communicated in Spanish which was great for both of us. He already had quite a few genuine actors of Mexican descent on his crew list and this ensured that all the accents in the game and the Spanish expressions (and swearwords) are truly genuine. His final film school project is a film about drugs in the Mexican community in Los Angeles. We picked the director ourselves and chose a talented director, fresh out of film school, called Alonso Mayo. Nothing needs to be explained, like a picture, one piece of music can say a thousand words.Īll voices for the characters were recorded by our great friends in Salami Studios, Hollywood. Linking styles of music with character types helps to identify them very easily. In this way Ramiro represents "the modern world" and steps into a traditional world meeting local characters that belong to this world. For example is Ramiro's theme an explosive Molotov song, Angel, the Babe, has a melancholy, traditional tune called Mexican Nights, and Cesar Morales, the drug lord, has a traditional trumpet and guitar song called Rio Grande. In Total Overdose we have used a lot of different bands music and the traditional music to highlight the characters. Total Overdose is packed with great and colorful characters and music. The cool thing is that we did not only get access to all the songs written by the three bands, but were allowed to sample and use bits and pieces for our interactive action music track. Judge yourself when you play Total Overdose. They are the least well known of the three but maybe the coolest. They are super political and they have created the hardest Hip Hop in Spanish. We absolutely fell in love with their music when we heard the first lyrics in the song, Molotov Cocktail Party "I'll rip your head off and defecate down your neck - You better alejate because I don't give a heck -You can't understand how I kicks my bingo - you better step back because here comes the crazy gringo."ĭon't+touch+that+dial! Control machete is based in the east of Mexico from place close to the US border. They are a super hard guitar based Hip Hop band - think Rage Against the Machine meets Julio Iglesias. Molotov is from Mexico City and the band we use most in Total Overdose. ![]() Now we laugh and enjoy their great rhythms in the game. Besides that we saw them play at a small club here in Copenhagen, went up to them after the concert and said - You are going to be in our game! This is three years ago and they laughed. They are pretty hot and have delivered tracks for the Tony Hawk games. To compliment the interactive action music track we signed three super cool underground Mexican bands that have toured South- and North America with Cypress Hill.ĭelinquents Habit is a Californian band with Mexican roots. Imagine blasting your way through hordes of enemies while listening to La Cucaracha or Mexican guitars. ![]() ![]() ![]() We brought in a lot of Mariachi, trumpet and other traditional music. The idea with the interactive action music track proved so great that we started experimenting - not only with the contemporary music. This creates a great action experience and makes the adrenalin pump like you have never felt before. When you shoot one "bandito" the music beat starts when you shoot three in a row (in a combo) the music escalates - drums, bass starts pounding and after 9 kills the music goes over the top. The harder you play the more intense the music gets. In order to stimulate this, we have designed an interactive music track system. The player should never feel they have to sneak but always be stimulated to run flat out and dive head first into the action. From the Total Overdose Development Team:Īs Total Overdose is an over the top action game, the music also has to be over the top. ![]()
